BIO Submits Comments to EPA on the Renewable Fuel Standards for 2018 and Biomass-Based Diesel Volume for 2019

August 31, 2017

BIO submitted comments on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed rule, Renewable Fuel Standard Program: Standards for 2018 and Biomass-Based Diesel Volume for 2019.

In the comments, BIO explains advanced and cellulosic biofuels are poised for rapid growth in 2018 – if the final 2018 RFS rule allows producers to access the transportation fuel market. To grow the U.S. biofuels industry and jobs in rural America, the 2018 RFS should not arbitrarily limit growth of advanced and cellulosic biofuels.

BIO asks EPA to reject the new methodology of forecasting gallons under the cellulosic waiver and return to a forward-looking forecasting methodology that considers current market activity. BIO also asks EPA to expedite pathway approvals and adjust its treatment of carryover RINs.
