BIO Congratulates Alex Azar on Confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services

January 24, 2018

Washington, DC (January 24, 2018) – Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) President and CEO Jim Greenwood issued the following statement regarding the confirmation of Alex Azar as United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS):

“We look forward to working with Mr. Azar as he tackles the many pressing issues within the American health care system. I am confident that American patients will be well served by his leadership and I congratulate him on his confirmation.

“The opportunities facing HHS today are enormous. From encouraging the development of new technologies to help solve the opioid crisis and removing barriers to value-based payment models, to overseeing the FDA and NIH as they implement landmark new legislation to speed the science and development of new cures and promote greater competition and choice in the marketplace, the decisions made at HHS today will leave a lasting imprint on American health care for decades to come.”
