The Biotechnology Innovation Organization today announced 21 companies have joined the Industrial & Environmental Section over the past year. BIO will work closely with these diverse new members as it continues to lead advocacy efforts that advance the development and adoption of biotechnology into industrial and environmental processes, such as the production of bio-based products and biofuels.
The announcement comes as BIO prepares to host its 2019 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in the center of America’s Heartland, home to many farms, industrial facilities and companies that drive America’s bio-based economy. The 2019 BIO World Congress will take place at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa, July 8-11, 2019. To reflect the innovation taking place in the region, BIO has expanded its programming for the world’s largest conference on industrial biotechnology to feature sessions on agriculture, gene editing, renewable chemicals, biofuels, food ingredients, synthetic biology and more.
Brent Erickson, executive vice president of BIO’s Industrial & Environmental Section, welcomed the new members, stating:
“BIO welcomes these new members as we continue to lead advocacy efforts for the advancement of industrial biotechnology, and thus the strengthening of the bio-based economy. These new member companies represent innovations taking place in various aspects of the bio-based economy, from technology development to those that produce renewable chemicals, bio-based materials and bioplastics, and advanced and cellulosic biofuels. BIO looks forward to working with these companies as we continue to drive policies that foster innovation.”
